About a year ago, I posted about William Gedney and his trips to Kentucky in the 1960's and 1970's.  Gedney died of AIDS in 1989, so I thought it was fitting on World AIDS Day to have a look at a few more of his photographs from those visits.

Recorded in New York, New York in February 1990. ( Thank You, Singers and Saints Blog ) Personnel: Abbey Lincoln (vocals); Jackie McLean (alto saxophone); Clark Terry (trumpet); Alain Jean-Marie (piano); Charlie Haden (bass); Billy Higgins (drums). "Have we been waiting for something like this since Billie, then Dinah passed on--i.e. groovy, in-the-tradition jazz singing that actually means something? Heir apparent Betty Carter is on an ego trip, Cassandra Wilson is too arty... and so on. There was a time when the Gossip Forum on Datalounge was a particularly entertaining cyberspace, much like a funny Joan Rivers routine.
