Songs of the Week: Justified & Ancient

Image
The lead off song is the KLF dance classic with Tammy Wynette taking lead vocals. It is here in honour of Del Shores' Sordid Lives and the wonderful character he created, Brother Boy who has a penchant for showing up as Miss Tammy. All bound for Mu Mu Land All bound for Mu Mu Land (hey) (hey hey) All bound for Mu Mu Land (justified) (hey hey) All bound for Mu Mu Land (Bring the beat back!) They're Justified, and they're Ancient, And they like to roam the land. (just roll it from the top) They're Justified, and they're Ancient, I hope you understand. (to the bridge, to the bridge, to the bridge now) They called me up in Tennessee They said "Tammy, stand by The Jams" But if you don't like what they're going to do, You better not stop them 'cause they're coming through (bring the beat back) (Hey hey) All bound for Mu Mu Land (justified) (Hey hey) All bound for Mu Mu Land (justified) (Ancients of Mu Mu) Mu Mu Land Mu Mu Land All bound for Mu M

Beefcake Desserts: James Ellis and Nick Auger

Sweet Baby James has graced the hallowed halls of Column of Life before. It was with great pleasure to see him featured [above] in the November issue of Men's Workout . He is offered here as dessert. James, however, can be anything he wants to be: dessert, a night cap, a blanket ...

Saturday Beefcake: Al Dente

Image
We are continuing with stealing from Eating Well but this time from the diet book they've published called, what else, The Eating Well Diet (7 Steps to A Healthy Trimmer You). The book bears reading. It offers a very organized way of getting back to healthy eating involving a glycemic index. Once more here is a salad, but this time something very creative involving pasta and blueberries. As all pasta addicts concur, al dente is the only way to eat it. From About.com: al dente refers to the desired texture of cooked pasta in Italian cooking. It literally means 'to the tooth'. When the pasta is cooked al dente , there should be a slight resistance in the center when the pasta is chewed. With all this talk about getting trim and healthy, not to mention al dente , it makes good sense to offer images of humans who are trim and healthy and who give new meaning to the words al dente . They are also well garnished.

Beefcake Cocktail Hour: Greg Plitt

Image
If you're going to have cocktails with anyone, why not the ever striking Greg Plitt. Always good to see him. From Workout , Season 3 Episode 6: Greg Plitt hit the sauce hard and proposed a tipsy toast to his fellow trainers: "To Skye for bringing us all together. Because without Skye, I wouldn't have known each individual and every single one of you has enriched my life and I hope that maybe I've enriched your life and I think we've all enriched each other's lives through the process." Greg, you've done some enriching around here. We're enriched, thank you very much.

Saturday Beefcake: It's a Bunch for Lunchtime

Here are seven tasty treats from August's Eating Well . The warm weather is still with us and, while it is, light healthy morsels are often the rule. The magazine does a very good job of pointing the way to good eating. This weekly feature will not be outdone in pointing the way to good eating. We have, therefore, included seven tasty treats of our own. These are salads that do not necessarily require tossing ... But a good cook always makes sure that the kitchen is thoroughly cleaned. 'Tis certainly the way to a man's heart. If not more strategically placed parts of the anatomy.

Friday Night Might: Brandon Beemer

Image
This native of Eugene, Oregon is also a native of the very intuitive and creative sign of Pisces who admits to having a crazy imagination since childhood. Still he didn’t seriously consider acting until much later. Instead, he played sports in high school and earned small scholarships to several colleges for track. However, upon graduating he opted to forsake higher education in favor of heading to New York when a modeling agency offered him work in the fashion industry. Although it paid the bills, Beemer felt unfulfilled by the strike-a-pose scene and began taking acting. His legions of fans are very happy that he did. No sooner did he leave the hour glass town of Salem on Days of Our Lives than he landed on The Bold & The Beautiful . Bold and beautiful indeed! Having this talented young man with us will make it more than memorable, a landmark evening with a good man for a good cause. Cops 4 Causes and POZ are pleased to announce the date of the second annual fundraiser for AIDS

Gay Thursday: Gay Gold

Image
Aussie Diver Matthew Mitcham, Openly Gay, Wins Gold! Date: 24-Aug-2008 (From DNA ) Openly gay Australian diver Matthew Mitcham pulled a stunning upset in the 10 metre platform diving final, winning gold off favourite Chinese diver Luxin Zhou and his in form team mate Liang Huo. After a shaky start, Matthew scored an incredible four perfect 10s and his final dive - back 2 and 1/2 sommersault 2 and 1/2 twists dive - was such perfection that it drew gasps from a, naturally, heavily pro-Chinese crowd and scored a massive 12.10points, the highest scoring dive in the history of the Olympics Matthew finished with 537.95 points to become Australia's first male Olympic gold medallist in diving since Dick Eve in 1924. As we've reported in the past Matthew has battled depression and even retired from the sport just a couple of years ago. He hit the boards again just last year. Congratulations Matthew from all at DNA! From the Sydney Morning Herald : His coach Chava Sobrino, who encouraged

Wednesday's Word II: Adam Grimes

Image
generous Function: adjective 1 giving or sharing in abundance and without hesitation … Synonyms bounteous, bountiful, charitable, free, freehanded, liberal, munificent, openhanded, unselfish, unsparing Adam Grimes took up acting because he was inspired by his high school drama teacher. It is now this Vermont native’s turn to do the inspiring and inspire he does as General Hospital: Night Shift 's Doctor Kyle Julian. He is a member of the long-form comedy group, Supermodel, as well as an alumnus of 10 West Improvisational Theater indicating that this is a rising talent with range and versatility. Add generous to his many attributes, because it didn’t take much for him to agree to be part of Love Out Loud West 's "Soaps in the City" on October 16th at East/West Lounge in West Hollywood. Jack Myers, who also posts on the Huffington Post, had more than one encouraging word bout Adam’s current place of work: “The stories of these characters may not be ground-breaking, but

Wednesday's Word I: Andrew Christian

Tuesday Talent: Jon Stewart

Image
This has been stolen, hook, line and sinker from HuffingtonPost.com. It is only one of the many reasons that gay men wish they could call Jon the Beloved as one of their own. We love you, Bubila. As Comedy Central's Daily Show descends on Denver for four days of coverage, Jon Stewart took after the "established" media for getting too cozy with candidates and regurgitating campaign spin when it comes to political coverage. In a breakfast with reporters, Stewart directed most of his ire at the 24-hour cable news networks, which he called "gerbil wheels," and said the media at-large had "abdicated" to what he called the "slow-witted beast." He said the never-ending television news cycle creates a "false sense of urgency" and forces reporters to "follow the veins that have been mined," instead of pursuing serious and in-depth reporting. At Comedy Central's Indecision2008 blog, Dennis DiClaudio called the breakfast "t

Monday Musing: Cutting Off Noses & Spiting Faces, Lest We Forget

Image
Three short years ago, good people--this was on our minds. Dear Clintonistas, who cling to your bitterness and think of supporting McCain and the Republicans--thoroughly illogical and not in anyone's best interest--least of all your own. Three Short Years Ago. Life will go on but not without the overriding thought that not only will one of the major cities of the United States with a rich culture never be the same, but the US itself will never be the same. The unofficial end of summer marks the unofficial end of the Bush Presidency as well as its ascendancy which was based on the false hope of its ability to protect the citizens of this country from terror. Katrina was a natural terror and Ol’ George flunked this test miserably. There is no glory in that for those who do not support him. However, there should not be great surprise. He is carrying on a grand old tradition. Lest we forget Kent State and Mr. Reagan’s ignorance regarding AIDS. The tragedy of New Orleans definitely puts

Sunday Songs: Kym Mazelle

Image
Ms. Mazelle may very well have been the soul in Soul II Soul. One of her solo endeavours, Brilliant , is full of it. She can put all the passion of an ongoing relationship in her voice and tell the story that needs to be told. The three cuts here were part of the dance scene in the late 80s and early 90s. There's jazz and inflection in these renditions--something that good dance music needs. Yes. She's taken Jean Carnes' "Was That All It Was" and given it even more pathos and grit. Perhaps that's why she's come to the conclusion that the man is "Useless." She's also very much a gospel singer and she endows that genre with her special delivery. There doesn't seem to be an official website, but she's on MySpace. Take a look . There are worse discoveries you could make.
