The Monday Muse: Chris Meloni, Happy Birthday to the Alpha Hunk

Image
Meloni is the king of de-briefing starting with a scene on The Fanelli Boys an early short-lived sitcom of his where his character literally takes his clothes off until most recently on Law & Order: SVU where fans were treated to a glimpse of what is certainly the most attractive derriere on prime time. OZ fans were treated to much more than that. He reinvented the man on man kiss with his co-stars Lee Tergesen and Brian Bloom which had male and female fans alike glued to their TV sets among other things. The man has big ones. He is also there for so many right things that it puts a different spin on our coined interpretation of de-briefing. Christopher is a master at lending a helping hand when it counts. The way this man handled losing his best friend on September 11, 2001 was by participating in many firefighter benefits. He is supportive of the MS Walk. He addressed the AIDS Walk in 2001 and continues to help efforts in these parts to raise money. He has HIV+ friends and la...

The Wednesday Word: Chris Meloni and True Blood

Image
When this word came forth, the environs of CoL were shaking in joyous anticipation. We took it upon ourselves to steal the complete article below. No secret that Chris is very special to us. Bernice's skirt found a place where it had not been in a while, i.e. over her head. That's another story, or TMI as the case may be. How ultimately grand it is that Mr. Meloni made the career decision to leave Law & Order: SVU only to find himself working on the new Superman. Now this! Hurray for our team! If you've been wanting to see more of Christopher Meloni on your television screens, congratulations: You could soon be seeing a lot more of him. According to TVLine, Meloni's eying a major role in the upcoming fifth season of HBO's True Blood . How great is that?! If Meloni does join True Blood it would the first foray into television work for the Oz veteran since he abruptly quit Law & Order: SVU earlier this year. He's reportedly currently filming his role a...

Ten Years After: 11 September 2001

Image
Ten years ago on this date Mus, the Algerian owner of what was then Denizen, a restaurant in lower Manhattan’s Soho on Thompson St. was furiously cooking food in the locale’s tiny kitchen to bring down to the site of the by then destroyed World Trade Center. Earlier that day watching the destruction above the Arch of Washington Square from Fifth Avenue one could only imagine what was happening further south closer to the tragedy. It induced a state of shock. Those who knew Mus and others in the area tried to get across Houston St. but the authorities would not permit passage to those who didn’t live there. What was really happening in Mus' world was that a Muslim businessman threw caution to the wind and wanted to take care of those who needed it. He wanted to be there. The atmosphere South of Houston with white particles filling the air had poor visibility. For days thereafter a strange odor permeated much of downtown. Witnessing the devastation and being traumatized thereof doesn...

Saturday Beefcake: Happy Birthday, Christopher Meloni

Image
"It matters not what side his bread is buttered on. He clearly loves us, i.e. his gay brethren. Married. Straight. Whatever. Proof positive that there is a God, or rather, gods." We have posted this cake recipe before under various titles but it is one of the favorites in the hallowed halls of Column of Life and, therefore, it is now reincarnated as a birthday cake for the man who has reached a half century milestone. We sincerely hope he has at least another fifty. 1 Pan di Spagna 500 grams of Fresh Ricotta, let the water drain out overnight Heavy cream, whipped Confectioner's sugar (about 150 grams) Cointreau or any orange liqueur Citron Semi-sweet Chocolate (chopped or in chips) 1. The cake, homemade or otherwise, should be chilled. The number of layers is dependent on the constructor. The layers should not be very thick. While preparing the following cream, soak the cake with the liqueur to taste. 2. Force the ricotta through a sieve until it's smooth. Beat it con...
