Join the POZ Army: Stand With Greg

Greg Louganis

Considered to be the greatest Olympic diver of all time, Greg Louganis is a five-time world champion and has 47 national championship titles. Louganis began competing when he was 9. By 16, he won his first Olympic medal, and at 24, he won two Olympic Gold Medals by winning the platform and springboard events. He repeated that feat four years later at the 1988 Olympics. It was at the 1988 Games that he infamously hit the back of his head on the springboard during the preliminaries. Greg was diagnosed with HIV a few months before the 1988 Games but did not publicly disclose his status until 1995 when he released his autobiography, Breaking the Surface. He has since been an advocate for HIV awareness and has worked with the Human Rights Campaign to defend the civil rights of the LGBT community. Greg currently lives in Southern California and speaks out for many causes and organizations including youth clubs, drug rehabilitation and dyslexia.
