Tuesday Talent: Kevin Scott Hall

It's hard to believe that Kevin has been living in New York City for twenty-five years. He has the aura of someone newly arrived and vibrant. For a few years, he did the audition rounds and studied at several schools, managing to appear in many local productions, including The Shadow Box, The Pirates of Penzance, Hello Dolly! and the New York Renaissance Festival. It didn't take too long for Kevin to move on as a singer-songwriter, and he booked himself at several dives, long since closed, to ply his craft for the next few years. Eventually, the venues got classier, and he's appeared in such well-known rooms as The Triad, Don't Tell Mama, The Ballroom, Judy's, Rose's Turn, Eureka Joe and several clubs in Boston and Philadelphia. Kevin rebounded with renewed enthusiasm after being the victim of a random stabbing. He went on to perform stand-up—"Nothing like near-death to bring on the laughs"— founded SPAM, a troop of solo performance artists, and started his "That Singing Feeling" workshop, which has been growing in popularity since 1995.



Most importantly, he established his own record label, Cascade Records, and released his first CD, New Light Dawning, in 1998. He calls the sound "eclectic easy listening" and it is still adding radio stations around the country. His original songs "I Can", "I Will", "Maybe" and "Weekends With You" have received much acclaim, as well as his shattering version of Orbison's "Crying". He followed up in 1999 with the 3-song Holiday Spirit EP, which includes the title song he wrote. In 2002, Kevin released Live at Middle, a live recording of a concert at Middle Collegiate Church in NYC in July 2001. The disc features more gospel, rock and blues numbers, and includes spoken bits.

Kevin has completed his MFA at City College/CUNY, where he is currently an adjunct professor. Kevin's first novel Off the Charts! came out in Spring 2010. He continues to teach at City College and BMCC and has a monthly column and writes features for Edge (www.edgenewyork.com).

Dror Barak Dead at 38 2.27.2012 By Out.com Editors Model and personal trainer reportedly dead from apparent suicide According to reports on Facebook and Twitter, Dror Barak, aka Roman Ragazzi, has died of an apparent suicide on February 25 at the age of 38. Barak most recently appeared in a fashion story in the February issue of Out , titled "New York's Finest," photographed by Marcelo Krasilcic (pictured left). The former Israeli military trainer was outed in 2007 by New York Post’s "Page Six" while working at the Israeli consulate, the ensuing scandal caused him to resign. Later that year, he started a personal training and fitness company called Freedom Fitness.
