Songs of the Week: Paul Newman, Burt Bacharach and BJ Thomas

The lead song won an oscar for Mr. Bacharach. It was from the classic that co-starred Paul Newman and Robert Redford, Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid. Dionne Warwick was instrumental in getting her stable mate, BJ Thomas to sing "Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head" for Bacharach and company. It was a million seller in 1970. It is a bittersweet tune appropriate to the film. It is followed by a quirky ditty that Thomas sang for Bacharach, "Everybody's Out of Town." The third song is "Let The Music Play" sung by the Drifters in direct response to Mr. Newman's death. "Let the music play just a little longer ..." if only Mr. Newman could have remained a bit longer. One of the most progressive and intelligent voices in the entertainment industry has been silenced. Goodnight, Sweet Prince.
