Sunday Songs: Kym Mazelle

Ms. Mazelle may very well have been the soul in Soul II Soul. One of her solo endeavours, Brilliant, is full of it. She can put all the passion of an ongoing relationship in her voice and tell the story that needs to be told. The three cuts here were part of the dance scene in the late 80s and early 90s. There's jazz and inflection in these renditions--something that good dance music needs. Yes. She's taken Jean Carnes' "Was That All It Was" and given it even more pathos and grit. Perhaps that's why she's come to the conclusion that the man is "Useless." She's also very much a gospel singer and she endows that genre with her special delivery. There doesn't seem to be an official website, but she's on MySpace. Take a look. There are worse discoveries you could make.
