Gay Thursday: Potpourri

From Today’s Metro Things That Make You Go, “Hmmmmm”

Surprising news of the week: *Star* magazine is reporting that Matthew Broderick cheated on his wife, Sarah Jessica Parker, several times with a 25-year-old redhead.
The mag says the adulterous affair began when Broderick met the girl in a bar and began texting her. It allegedly became physical quickly. And the worst part? When Parker was off in L.A. filming the ultimate woman empowerment film of 2008, *Sex and the City: The Movie,* Broderick would make late-night visits to the woman’s apartment. Ouch.
This is super sad (we always thought Parker and Broderick had a good relationship in the world of celebrity coupledom). However, the upside is that at least this news will put to rest all of those “Broderick is gay” rumors. (Dorothy Robinson)

Seems that Ms. Robinson has a lot to learn. Still, that last sentence gives one pause.

Silence Equals Death

New York. Health care providers want to help patients prevent HIV infection through testing and other services, but their job is tougher when patients are mum on their sexual behavior. A Health Department survey released yesterday of 452 men who had sex with other men within the past year found that 39 percent had kept their doctors in the dark. The study showed that men who disclose having sex with men were twice as likely as those who did not to have been tested for HIV — 63 percent versus 36 percent.
“Because of the fear and discrimination that still surround coming out, we are missing opportunities to stop the spread of HIV,” said Monica Sweeney of the Health Department.
The disclosure rates broke down differently among races: 60 percent of blacks did not tell their doctors, compared to 48 percent Hispanics and 47 percent Asians. Only 19 percent of whites kept quiet about their sexual behavior.

The more things change, the more they are the same.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Barack Obama is the clear front-runner amongst gay American voters as their favoured candidate for the November presidential election.

Obama is leading most national polls as the favoured candidate, however not many polls have him leading Republican Senator John McCain by the margin that he is amongst gay voters.

Over 60 percent of gay registered voters are throwing their support behind Senator Obama, while only 14 percent are backing 71-year-old McCain.

The Harris Interactive poll shows that 90 percent of black voters are planning on voting for Obama, while Latino voters are on par with the gays when it comes to support for Obama.

Obama is seen as being more supportive of gay rights issues. While not supporting gay 'marriage' per se like McCain, he does support civil unions. McCain campaigned against domestic partnership benefits in his own home state of Arizona.

Obama is also in favour of repealing the 'don't ask, don't tell' policy of the American military, which McCain is not.

Did you know that Stephen Colbert is from South Carolina, that very gay State?

DNA provided its on line readers with the above in response to Colbert's very funny response to the "South Carolina is so gay" ad campaign that the governor forced out of existence. Precious.
