Saturday Beefcake: Four Years Ago We Went Down the Shore

Going down the shore back in the day in September was a complete joy. The weather was perfect and the water was warm. The nights were comfortable. Something like Northern California on the East Coast. Breakfasts in Cape May were quite comforting and provided one with a new lease on life. The satisfaction is quite similar to taking in the sight of young Matthew here pictured on the East Coast somewhere near Brooklyn.

"Have we been waiting for something like this since Billie, then Dinah passed on--i.e. groovy, in-the-tradition jazz singing that actually means something? Heir apparent Betty Carter is on an ego trip, Cassandra Wilson is too arty... and so on. Abbey Lincoln's trip is something else again (perhaps Parisian) as she poignantly introduces "How High The Moon" in broken French and triumphantly ends the set with Francis Lai's "Live For Life."
