More Gay Thursday: Chump Change You Can Believe In

The President is in serious danger of motivating a huge mass of gay people to stream into Washington for the simple joy of standing in front of the White House and giving him a piece of their minds.

This frustration may lead to an embarrassing situation for the President, where former supporters mount the largest anti-Obama pep rally not fronted by Sarah Palin.

This week, an array of GLBT leaders expressed their dismay with the President by pulling out of a Democratic National Committee fundraiser. The action is in protest of a noxious legal brief submitted by the Department of Justice. It implausibly defended the heinous Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) by using anti-gay arguments that likely drew a standing ovation from Rev. Pat Robertson.

DOJ’s paper included a comparison of gay relationships to incest and opposed same-sex relationships on the absurd basis that it would cost taxpayers money (Don’t gay people pay taxes?). HRC also sent a pointed letter to Obama highlighting the betrayal felt by the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community.

“I cannot overstate the pain that we feel as human beings and as families when we read an argument, presented in federal court, implying that our own marriages have no more constitutional standing than incestuous ones,” wrote HRC’s President, Joe Solmonese. [Wayne Besen]

No doubt that the gay vote is only pivotal in close elections. Perhaps Mr. Obama thinks it is expendable. But is this not supposed to be a principled POTUS? Perhaps he thinks that he needs to bolster support on the right. Big mistake. Burning your left flank, Mr. Obama, will turn you into Lyndon Johnson or Jimmy Carter. Pandering to the right does not work. It only worked marginally for the Clintonistas. The Clinton experience should teach you that the right will never love you no matter what you do. The bloom is already off the rose, but you can still save your own integrity. Disavow the language in the DOJ brief. Didn't Mr. Emmanuel know any gay people when he went to ballet school?

... became a couple. Chris, it seems, at least accepts himself as gay and has ordered Mike out of the apartment. Coming attractions have Chris outing the Probie to his mates at the Firehouse. Is there no room in this world for a bi-sexual Probie? Yes, there has been much discussion about whether such creatures truly exist. Perhaps bi-sexual is really a euphemism for sexual confusion. The confusion seems to come from Leary and Tolan trying to do too much all at once with their plots and moving them along too quickly. Chris & Probie would have a lot to deal with even if one of them weren't so confused. There seem to be some deleted scenes or Tolan/Leary have a lot of faith in their viewing audience to make the transition without accompanying scenes.
