Tony Nominee Jill O'Hara Performs Selections From Her CD 6/3 At Barnes & Noble

Praised by Backstage for "one of those rare voices with a soothing, almost hypnotic quality," award winning vocalist and actress Jill O'Hara, the Tony nominee from the Broadway musical Promises, Promises, will be performing selections from her first CD release in fifteen years Alone Together. The performance will take place on Wednesday, June 3rd at 6pm at Barnes & Noble/Lincoln Triangle, 1972 Broadway at 66th Street in Manhattan. Providing accompaniment for Jill will be one of the industry's most sought after pianist Bill Mays, who has worked who has worked with legendary artists Frank Sinatra, Al Jarreau and Anita O'Day. Becoming the toast of Broadway by the time she was 21 years old, in rapid succession, she starred in three hit musicals. She has the distinction of originating the female lead in the very first Public Theater production of Hair (that performance is now preserved on the original cast album CD) before going on to co-star with Joel Grey in the Tony Award winning musical George M!. But it was playing opposite Jerry Orbach in the Burt Bacharach-Hal David-Neil Simon musical Promises, Promises, that immortalized her.



Jill introduced the Bacharach/David pop classics "I'll Never Fall In Love Again," "Knowing When To Leave" and "Whoever You Are, I Love You." O'Hara went on to win a Tony nomination, the Theater World Award and New Jersey Journal Award for Best Actress In A Musical, while the cast album earned a Grammy Award. O'Hara also introduced another pop standard "Good Morning Starshine" in the premiere, original off-Broadway performance of the groundbreaking musical Hair

O'Hara is celebrating the release of her new CD Alone Together. Her first release in fifteen years, the CD is an eclectic collection of standards and more contemporary material from Randy Newman and Amanda McBroom. Backed by some of the top jazz musicians around including pianist/arranger Bill Mays, Grammy winner Byron Olson, who served as arranger, conductor and songwriter, bass player.

"Have we been waiting for something like this since Billie, then Dinah passed on--i.e. groovy, in-the-tradition jazz singing that actually means something? Heir apparent Betty Carter is on an ego trip, Cassandra Wilson is too arty... and so on. Abbey Lincoln's trip is something else again (perhaps Parisian) as she poignantly introduces "How High The Moon" in broken French and triumphantly ends the set with Francis Lai's "Live For Life."
