Friday Night Might: AIDS Walk Los Angeles

Political posturing notwithstanding, humanity has survived worse than the collapse of financial institutions. It is interesting to note the urgency in the mind of many politicians in rescuing Wall Street. It is very bad, no doubt. Still it is interesting to note how the sense of urgency was absent when people were dying by the droves in the 1980s. The neglect which may not have been benign with a lot of people having the attitude that "all the right people are dying" persisted for years. That attitude coupled with utter ignorance kept the AIDS crisis on the political back burner, while down here in the real world it burned. They fiddled.

People with AIDS took matters into their own hands. It may have been the first time that victims took matters into their own hands and divested themselves of that definition. They themselves took the responsibility as opposed to them. It is one of the main reasons that there are AIDS Walks virtually in every part of the United States.

"Main Street" is still taking matters into in its own hands. Come October 19th folks will be walking through the streets of West Hollywood to bring awareness to a continuing AIDS crisis and to help raise money principally for AIDS Project Los Angeles.

Along with POZ magazine are two people helping to make a fund-raiser for the Walk a reality, Deputy Christopher Landavazo of Cops 4 Causes and Michael Fairman whose position in the Soap Opera world has helped bring quite a few current stars to this event to help draw fans. Both of these men have worked tirelessly to create a memorable evening on October 16th to kick off AIDS Walk Los Angeles at East/West Lounge on Santa Monica Boulevard. Because of their efforts Love Out Loud West promises to become a more expansive effort.

Two more actors from the number one Soap Opera in the country, The Young & the Restless have come on board. The characters they portray are inextricably tied as mother and son. These very fine people are Christian Le Blanc and Judith Chapman. They are also inextricably tied as terrifically talented actors.

Judith Chapman is easily recognizable to most viewers of the small screen because she has virtually been everywhere. She has been there and done that and very well at that.

Christian LeBlanc has won more than one Emmy award for his remarkable portrayal of Michael Baldwin and deservedly so giving evidence to the concept that it is gifted actors who are keeping the genre alive.

If you want to come out to meet people like these exceptional individuals, you can buy tickets here.

If that's not something you can do, go here to make a donation.
