Simon Baker was originally showcased on these shores in LA Confidential with fellow Australians, Russell Crowe and Guy Pearce. He was last seen by most people in the Devil Wears Prada. He is coming to weekly television again in what promises to be a rather well done series, The Mentalist.





Thank you, CBS. Seems like a gratuitous picture is in order. He turns 39 this week on the 30th.

"Have we been waiting for something like this since Billie, then Dinah passed on--i.e. groovy, in-the-tradition jazz singing that actually means something? Heir apparent Betty Carter is on an ego trip, Cassandra Wilson is too arty... and so on. Abbey Lincoln's trip is something else again (perhaps Parisian) as she poignantly introduces "How High The Moon" in broken French and triumphantly ends the set with Francis Lai's "Live For Life."
